PDK Area Director
Area directors are volunteer leaders who engage in activities that increase PDK’s impact and visibility within their state or states. The position includes many opportunities to expand one's leadership skills while giving back to PDK and the education profession.
Area directors are assigned by geographic region. In most cases, one area director is assigned to a state, regardless of the size of the state or number of PDK chapters in that state. However, there are some exceptions. A few larger states have more than one area director. Some states and international regions will also be grouped together and assigned to one area director. This list shows how PDK defines its geographic regions and how many area directors support each region.
Area directors:

- Provide support to the work of PDK chapters and members;
- Serve as an ambassador, always promoting membership in PDK;

- Network with other like-minded PDK leaders;
- Collaborate with education leaders and other organizations on initiatives that advance the tenets of leadership, research, and service; and
- Remain current on the latest research in education.
Area directors have:
- Knowledge of advanced communication technologies;
- Motivation and leadership skills;
- Passion for education, particularly publicly-supported education;
- Knowledge of education resources within their assigned state or region;
- Networking and coalition-building skills; and
- Willingness to make meaningful contributions to discussions on education reform.
PDK area directors are volunteers. In fulfilling the obligations of the position, volunteers spend the equivalent of one to two days per month engaged in PDK activities. Terms of service in this leadership capacity are limited to six years.
