Whether you say the world is shrinking or “flattening,” the pace of technological change, increasing economic and political interconnectedness, and the rise in environmental concerns that cross borders mean that schools worldwide have to change the way they educate children. As part of PDK's commitment to advocate for high-quality, universally available education, we call on educators, parents, policy makers, and community leaders in all nations to get serious about preparing our students to succeed in a global society.
READ: Get informed about globalization and education.
DISCOVER: Examine what schools are doing to meet the needs of students in a global society by visiting schools, exploring websites, and surveying educators and parents.
EVALUATE AND IMPLEMENT: Look at innovative strategies for globalizing education in the context of your school and implement those with promise.
CONVENE: Bring together or join with educators, parents, and other stakeholders to discuss how to prepare our students to succeed in a global society.
ENGAGE: Participate in legislative debates at the state and federal level that relate to globalization and education (e.g., a state bill establishing foreign language requirements or the reauthorization of the federal No Child Left Behind Act).
WRITE: Submit letters to the editor, contribute OpEd articles, and contact your legislators to ensure that educators have a voice in the discussion over how to best prepare our students for their futures.
