Preparing Students for Responsible Citizenship in a Global Society
The Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) Washington Chapter announces its first state conference for researchers and educators. The conference theme, “Preparing Students for Responsible Citizenship in a Global Society” is an opportunity for educators to think and talk about the important education issues that will shape the future of our planet. The theme is aligned with the upcoming fall Education Summit sponsored by PDK International. Join Washington educators, university instructors and students in addressing educational issues and research on this important topic.
In addition to breakout sessions, a keynote speech will be presented by Dr. Walter Parker from the University of Washington. Dr. Parker specializes in the civic development of children and adolescents and the K-12 social studies curriculum. He has published extensively. His books include “Educating the Democratic Mind” (1996), "Education for Democracy: Curricula, Contexts, Assessments” (2002), “Teaching Democracy: Unity and Diversity in Public Life” (2003). He is also the research department editor for the journal “Social Education”.
