Wilmer and Sal Bugher Scholarship Fund

The Wilmer and Sal Bugher scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a career in education.

Dr. Wilmer Bugher (1920-1995) was born in Huntington County in Indiana. He received his PhD. from Purdue University and was a life-long educator. He taught mathematics, chemistry, and physics at Liberty Center Public Schools and Allen High School. He later served as principal at Jackson Center High School and Lancaster Central School in Wells County, and at LaPorte Central Junior High School.

Wilmer was superintendent at Plymouth Community Schools, Warsaw Community Schools, and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation. He also served as president of the Indiana Association of School Superintendents.

From 1975 to 1985, Dr. Bugher was the associate executive secretary of Phi Delta Kappa International. After retiring from PDK, he continued to do special projects and volunteer work with PDK. His wife Bertha (Sal) was a devoted companion throughout his career and with all of his projects. It is in honor of his life as an educator and his considerable contributions to the PDK Center for Dissemination of Innovative Programs during his retirement that this scholarship fund was begun.
