30 Fundraising Ideas
- Ask your principal for money from the building's activity fund.
- Form a team and take part in the annual PDK Walk for Education.
- Ask your educational foundation to include your FEA chapter as an option to which people can direct their contribution.
- Ask your local Phi Delta Kappa chapter.
- Charge dues.
- Ask your teachers union to support future teachers.
- Ask your retired teachers association to support future teachers.
- Ask your principal or superintendent if you can do a presentation about your FEA club at an upcoming school board meeting, and ask them for funding.
- Ask your local realtors. Good teachers=good schools=desirable communities=higher home prices.
- Hold a car wash.
- Buy a cotton candy machine and sell cotton candy at school events.
- Plan to hold a bake sale prior to Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter - many people may choose to buy baked goods rather than bake for their holiday gatherings. You could even take orders for specific items, such as pumpkin pies. Another option is to work with a local bakery to sell their baked goods — again, you could take advance orders with delivery just before the holiday.
- Partner with the organization that runs the concession stand at sporting events — offer to staff the booth with FEA members one evening in return for receiving the proceeds from that evening's sales.
- Sell compost.
- Ask your local Chamber of Commerce. Good teachers=educated workers for their businesses.
- Investigate federal Title II funds, which are targeted for teacher quality.
- Ask your human resources department; they know the value of recruiting good teachers.
- Sell candy apples. They can be bought in bulk at a store like Costco or Sam's Club.
- Create bulletin-board-in-a-bag kits to sell to teachers. Each kit contains a character, a border, and the letters for a catchy phrase. For an additional fee, you could send students to install the bulletin board or take custom orders. Creating file folder games is another choice.
- Hold a classroom-based edition of the popular TV show "Trading Spaces." In Kentucky, this fundraiser has raised close to $1,000. Two teams of students each receive $100 to renovate a teacher's classroom. Students, teachers, administrators, and school board members check out the results and vote for the classroom they like best by buying a $1 raffle ticket. Each person can vote as many times as they want, and the classroom that receives the most votes wins.
- Sell raffle tickets to determine which teacher will wear the Cat in the Hat costume on Read Across America Day on March 2. Students who buy a raffle ticket can nominate a teacher to wear the costume. The teacher who gets the most votes wins.
- FEA members can staff school store to sell school items (sweatshirts, etc.) for a percentage of the profits of sales during that day.
- Plan to sell flowers for Valentine's Day.
- Talk to fast food chains about having an FEA Night, during which a percentage of the proceeds from sales during a specified time would go to FEA.
- Buy pizzas from a local pizza shop and sell slices at each exit when school lets out.
- Plan to sell shrink-wrapped school supplies (organized by grade level) at school registration in the fall.
- Sell hot chocolate, coffee, and tea in the morning before school starts.
- Plan a school carnival or yard sale for the spring. Sell tables to other organizations, and plan some games for children.
- Sell flower bulbs/seeds.
- Sell tickets that allow students to wear a hat for the day.
