FEA Honor Society
One of the benefits of becoming an FEA charter chapter is the opportunity to take part in the FEA Honor Society.
The two goals of the Honor Society are to encourage students to maintain a high GPA and be active participants in their FEA chapters. We also hope this will give you an incentive to start some of the activities listed under service hours. After all, the mission of FEA is to give students a realistic understanding of the education profession, and it is critical that students take part in some of these activities to gain that perspective.
Each advisor can choose whether to implement the FEA Honor Society in his or her chapter. If the Honor Society is implemented, students must meet the following criteria:
- Attend at least 75% of chapter meetings/activities/events per year (the advisor can approve exceptions for illness or death in the family)
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA
- Complete 6 service hours per year (tutoring/mentoring, teacher assistance, or teacher shadowing). Up to 1 hour of this requirement can be met by FEA chapter leadership activities, such as work related to being a chapter officer or committee chair.
This can be offered to your students as a way to take their membership to a higher level. For instance, students can join your chapter if they meet the general membership criteria you currently have in place. Then, those members have the choice of becoming FEA Honor Society members.
FEA Honor Chapter
If you notify us that 80 percent of your chapter's members are FEA Honor Society members for the 2006-07 school year, your chapter will be recognized as an FEA Honor Chapter for that school year, and you will receive a certificate. After you have determined if your chapter meets the Honor Chapter criteria, please email us fea@pdkintl.org. If you would like to receive your certificate before an end-of-year school awards assembly, notify us 2-3 weeks prior to the date of the assembly to allow time for processing and shipping. We will also offer Honor Society merchandise for sale.
I encourage you to share this information with your principal. The FEA Honor Society gives students a way to take their FEA chapter membership to a higher level! |
