THE PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION IN EDUCATION

Make a Deferred Gift

Deferred gifts are gifts that you establish now and make through your estate plan. Deferred giving offers donors a broad range of options for supporting PDK International and has the potential for significant financial benefits and tax advantages. It’s a great way to help secure the future of education and protect your assets at the same time. Deferred gifts can be made through your will, insurance policy, retirement plan proceeds, or trust.

Donors of deferred gifts become members of the PDK Heritage Society and are noted each year in the PDK Educational Foundation Annual Report. Inclusion in the society occurs at the time the commitment is made.

We invite you to review the deferred giving options available at PDK. It’s an opportunity to create the gift you want to give and leave behind a legacy.

Bequests

Bequests are anything you give or leave to PDK from your estate through a will or a revocable living trust. A bequest can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a residual amount consisting of the remainder of your estate after payments of expenses and any specific amounts designated to other beneficiaries. Whatever the form of the bequest, it is fully revocable. It is not subject to estate or inheritance taxes and can significantly reduce the tax burden on your estate.

Beneficiary Designations

By designating the PDK Educational Foundation as the beneficiary of your retirement assets, you can enjoy some flexibility in your charitable giving and retain significant tax advantages. You can also give through your life insurance, which permits you to make a substantial gift of the face value of the policy for a relatively modest annual premium outlay. Again, these designations are fully revocable during your lifetime.

What types of gifts make the most difference at PDK and for the next generation of educators?

All gifts support the future of education. You may choose to direct the foundation to use your gifts as foundation staff identify new, emerging, or unmet needs, or you may specify a particular use. Many donors choose to endow a scholarship in their name or the name of a loved one, like the Lowell and Mary Rose Scholarship. Some choose a special initiative to support the next generation of great teachers, like the Eve Proffitt Emerging Leaders Grant. Others choose to support the advocacy of public education through PDK publications, like the Richard A. and Roberta J. Gibboney Phi Delta Kappan Fund.

There are a number of possibilities. Talking with foundation staff can help you determine the best use of your gift. Please contact the director of development at 800-766-1156 or deferredgiving@pdkintl.org if you have questions.
