Dr. Sandra Joy Crowther Scholarship Fund
The Dr. Sandra Joy Crowther Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is graduating from high school and wishes to become an educator.
Sandra Joy Crowther became a member of PDK International in 1975 and was appointed to the international board in 1999 to fill a vacancy. She was elected to the office of president-elect in 2007 and served as PDK’s international president from 2009-2011. This scholarship was established to provide an additional opportunity of financial support for those desiring to become educators. She was a future educator herself when she graduated from Webster Groves High School in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from the University of Kansas, she began work as a junior high teacher for the Lawrence, Kansas, public schools. She continued to serve the Lawrence schools as a teacher and administrator for 43 years before she retired in 2007. During her sabbatical from the district, she also taught at the University of Kansas and worked with student teachers.
She has a strong passion for PDK International and what it can accomplish through its three tenets of service, research, and leadership. Her president pin highlighted two globes surrounded by cogs with the presidential slogan “Working Together To Change the World.” During her presidency the Future Educators Association® became a federally-recognized Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO), and Pi Lambda Theta became part of the family of associations, allowing Phi Delta Kappa to serve all generations of those interested in pursuing education as a career.
