Jerry, as he was known to his friends, passed away in 2002, leaving a remarkable legacy of creative and beneficial educational development.

Dr. Melton was born and educated in Missouri. His career in education spanned nearly 40 years as a teacher, coach, school administrator, director of the National Academy for School Administrators, and president of Mountain Bear Associates, Inc.

Dr. Melton's contributions to Phi Delta Kappa and teaching and learning are a testimony of selfless service and leadership.
