Howard M. Soule Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Howard M. Soule Memorial Fellowships are awarded to members of PDK for doctoral studies or dissertation research as part of PDK's Graduate Fellowships in Educational Leadership.
Howard M. Soule's service to Phi Delta Kappa was extensive. He was inducted by the Phoenix Arizona Chapter in 1943 and held various chapter offices. In 1960, Howard was elected area coordinator of the Arizona and New Mexico Chapters, and in 1963 the delegates in District II elected him District Representative. He joined the Phi Delta Kappa Board of Directors in 1965 and was elected PDK president-elect by the delegates to the 1971 Biennial Council. Howard Soule served as PDK International President from 1973 to 1975.
During his tenure as PDK president, Howard also served on the Board of Governors of the PDK Educational Foundation. He also served as acting executive secretary of PDK in 1970-1971, and was appointed again to the Board of Governors in 1981 by the PDK Board. He served on the Foundation Board until 1983 and died on January 12, 1987.
Howard Soule was married for more than fifty years to Jean Paulyne and they had two children, a son, Charles, and a daughter, Alice.
