Billie P. Spellman Scholarship for Graduate Studies
The Billie P. Spellman/University of Houston-University Park Chapter Scholarship Fund was established in 1994. It awards a scholarship to part- or full-time students in the College of Education at the University of Houston-University Park campus. Applicants must be good-standing members of PDK International.
PDK's University of Houston-University Park Chapter created the scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Spellman and in recognition of her extensive service to the chapter and Phi Delta Kappa. Billie Spellman was initiated into membership in 1981. She served on the chapter's executive boards as president, membership vice-president, foundation representative, and delegate. She also spearheaded a partnership between the UH-UP Chapter and the Region IV Education Service Center that resulted in the highly successful Houston Professional Development Series. Proceeds from the series enabled the chapter to create the endowed fund from which an annual award could be made.
Billie Spellman joined the staff at Phi Delta Kappa International Headquarters in 1994. She served as Director of Membership Development until January 2005 and then as Director of Chapter Relations until her retirement May 2008.
