In 1966 George H. Reavis, a distinguished Ohio educator and longtime Kappan, provided the initial endowment to establish the Phi Delta Kappa Educational Foundation. Since then, the foundation has produced some impressive numbers:

  1. Scholarships—for a total of more than $1,000,000—awarded to future educators and education graduate students: 1,000+
  2. Middle schools and high schools that have hosted clubs of our Future Educators Association®: 1,000+
  3. Fastbacks disseminated—533 titles over 33 years: 8,000,000+
  4. Books published on professional topics, ranging from classroom management to the National Assessment of Education Progress, and written by distinguished authors, such as Edgar Dale and John Goodlad: 200+
  5. Educators who have participated in summer Gabbard Institutes for professional development: 10,000+
  6. Participants in international educational travel programs supported by Read funds: 2,500+
  7. Years that PDK/Gallup polls have been gathering the American people’s opinions about their public schools: 40+
  8. Publications donated to libraries and teacher centers: 50,000+
  9. Donations made to the foundation since its inception: $12,000,000+
