Permissions
PDK’s permissions policy concerns only material for which PDK holds the copyright. If an author has retained copyright for an article, that will be indicated on the article. In that situation, readers are responsible for contacting the copyright holder anytime they want to make copies of an article.
Submit all requests in writing by mail, fax, or e-mail to Permissions, Phi Delta Kappa International, 408 N. Union Street, Bloomington, IN 47405-3800, fax: 812-339-0018, e-mail: kappan@pdkintl.org.
Single articles
Readers can make up to 50 copies of one Kappan article per issue free of charge (without permission) as long as the copies are distributed free of charge beyond the cost of duplication and include the full citation.
Readers requesting to make 51 copies or more of a single article or who want to copy multiple articles from one issue must enter their request with Copyright Clearance Center, www.copyright.com.
Course packs
All course-pack requests should be directed to the Copyright Clearance Center, www.copyright.com.
Web sites
PDK will not approve requests to post articles from any PDK publication (including Kappan, EDge, Classroom Tips, and PDK books) on open access web sites.
Requests to place PDK material on password-protected web sites will be considered on an individual basis. Fees will be determined by the length of time the material will be posted on the web site.
Cartoons
PDK does not control the rights to cartoons published in Kappan. Please contact the cartoonist directly to obtain his/her permission.
