Bloomington, Ind. — William J. Bushaw is the new executive director of Phi Delta Kappa International, a leading professional association of educators. His appointment was announced by the association's international president, Sherry Morgan. “Dr. Bushaw is the leader we need for our next century,” commented Morgan, reflecting on Bushaw's appointment coming just ahead of the PDK centennial anniversary in 2006.
Bushaw will take up his new responsibilities on October 1, succeeding George Kersey, Jr., who served as executive director from 1999 until his retirement in June. Bushaw is currently a director at Merit Network, an education and technology organization based in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
“Phi Delta Kappa is at an important place in its history, and I welcome this opportunity to help launch the association into its second century,” said Bushaw. His prior leadership experience includes service as deputy superintendent at the Michigan Department of Education and Michigan director of the North Central Association.
Bushaw will be relocating to Bloomington, Indiana, which has been home to the international office of Phi Delta Kappa since 1956. The association's 60-member staff in Bloomington serves a worldwide membership of more than 70,000 educators and education students. The association is dedicated to promoting high-quality schooling through its mission of leadership, research, and service in education.
