We know, we believe, and we support that professional development is an intentional process, that it is ongoing, and that it is systemic. We know that it must be integrated within school improvement planning and it must focus on student improvement. It must be based on well-documented research, and it must be tailored to the needs of the participants and delivered to them at their site.

New Services Available:

International Travel Program provides opportunities for members to interact with colleagues abroad, learn about schooling in other nations, and sample the culture in various countries. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, educators facing common challenges can learn much from sharing ideas and debating policies with their counterparts in other countries through this professional development program.

Latest Training Opportunities:

Strategic Lesson Planning
Designing lessons strategically, to provide for on-going diagnosis of student needs and the delivery of instruction to meet those needs, is a critical skill all teachers must master. Contextual delivery requires great flexibility and creativity on the part of the teacher, as well as a high level of spontaneity. Learn how in this powerful seminar!

Taking the Mystery Out of Tests and Textbooks
Using publicly-released items participants are taught how to deconstruct test items using the deep alignment concept. The content, context, and cognitive type of test items are determined and then deepened, to maximize alignment between the taught and the tested curriculum. This seminar also provides participants with the principles needed to analyze textbooks and other instructional resources for alignment to the test in use.

Political Participation: Getting Students Involved
Studies from various institutes and foundations lament the lack of citizen participation in the United States . This is especially true of the 18-25 year olds. If students understood more fully the value of civic engagement and its importance to our democracy, they would more likely want to participate. Garner practical information to learn how to enhance students' understanding of civic engagement across all curriculum areas.
