Examining Student Work: Connecting and Aligning Student Artifacts and Resources to High Stakes Curriculum and Tests

DESCRIPTION:  

Without conscious alignment of materials and resources used in teaching and learning activities to the established, high-priority curriculum expectations (especially to high stakes testing), student work and classroom proceedings can miss the mark. This workshop is designed to provide leaders with tools to assist school districts in calibrating and aligning their curriculum resources with learner expectations and the measured curriculum (i.e., testing).

Participants will learn to:

  • Use a research-based process for examining classroom artifacts of student work for content, context and cognitive level.
  • Calibrate artifact objectives to curriculum standards and objectives.
  • Chart calibrated data by grade level, course, and subject matter area.

Guided practice will incorporate actual calibration activities with authentic artifacts gathered from school districts.
