Developing Literacy Skills with Folded Books

All of our training opportunities are site-specific. That is, the content is tailored to the expressed needs of the participants, and it is delivered to your site.

AUDIENCE:   All educators grades K-8

DESCRIPTION:

This teacher friendly workshop encourages an awareness and appreciation of the reading and writing process. Participants will learn how to make one-of-a-kind book constructions that support language arts literacy skills across the curriculum.

Discover how to make a variety of books recycled from budget friendly materials including easy-to-make storybooks, pop-up information books, poetry folders, plus many other unusual and special books that will promote reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Each session includes step-by-step instructions and helpful tips on lesson planning. A correlation chart shows teachers how the various book projects support important content outcomes from all areas of the curriculum. Folded books nurture student's ideas and imagination and serves to stimulate personal writing.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Use research based methods in teaching literacy
  • Engage students in active, meaningful learning
  • Raise students' reading and writing motivation
  • Challenge students and help them to enjoy the learning process
