Globalization, Value-Added, and School Improvement: A Winning Approach

All of our training opportunities are site-specific. That is, the content is tailored to the expressed needs of the participants, and it is delivered to your site.

AUDIENCE:   All educators

DESCRIPTION:

Traditional achievement measures that compare this year's third grade against last year's third grade and so on continue to dominate the accountability landscape. However, any educator quickly will remind us the most valuable student information is that which measures the progress of the same cohort of students over time. Armed with the information from value-added analysis data, educators can collaboratively explore how to ensure students learn more while providing teachers with the information necessary to improve their practice.

This workshop is designed to prepare school personnel interested in learning more about the role of value-added analysis as a measure of student growth in school improvement efforts. The session will examine the role of globalization in the school improvement process and the importance of value-added analysis as a tool to ensure school improvement efforts succeed.

Participants will understand the:

  • Ways the flattening of our world impacts the work of educators and students
  • Difference between student achievement and progress
  • Benefits of value-added progress information for various stakeholders
  • Measurement of the effect of schools and teachers on student achievement
  • Rational for using value-added information as part of the school improvement process

Our Mission:
We know, we believe, and we support that professional development is an intentional process, that it is ongoing, and that it is systemic. We know that it must be integrated within school improvement planning and it must focus on student improvement. It must be based on well-documented research, and it must be tailored to the needs of the participants and delivered to them at their site.
