Eight Essentials of Inquiry-Based Science:
An Overview

All of our training opportunities are site-specific. That is, the content is tailored to the expressed needs of the participants, and it is delivered to your site.

     
AUDIENCE:   K - 8 Teachers; Curriculum Directors
     
DESCRIPTION:  

This interactive workshop focuses on the qualities and characteristics of inquiry-based science and their applications to classroom practice. Principles of effective inquiry are addressed through thought and reflection, analysis and discussion, hands-on activities, and practical applications. Participants will gain a greater understanding of science education, strategies for effective teaching, and ways to increase student achievement.

The session will provide an overview of the Eight-Essentials of Inquiry-Based Science.

Inquiry-Based Science:

  • Develops an understanding of basic concepts
  • Provides experiences necessary to support and develop or modify interpretations of the world
  • Develops process and thinking skills
  • Actively engages students in a learning cycle
  • Builds a greater understanding of the ways that science-technology-society are linked
  • Enhances reading and writing skills
  • Allows for a diversity of strategies for learning
  • Allows for a variety of ways for students to show what they know and are able to do.
