Political Participation:
Getting Students Involved

All of our training opportunities are site-specific. That is, the content is tailored to the expressed needs of the participants, and it is delivered to your site.

AUDIENCE:   All educators serving grades 4-12

DESCRIPTION:

Studies from various institutes and foundations lament the lack of citizen participation in the United States. This is especially true of the 18-25 year olds. If students understood more fully the value of civic engagement and its importance to our democracy, they would more likely want to participate.

This workshop is designed to provide teachers with practical information to help them enhance their students' understanding of civic engagement across all curriculum areas.

Participants will examine:

  • Who participates in civic engagement and how to engage students
  • Effective communications
  • The role of the media in politics
  • Ethics in government
  • Practical political participation exercises

Our Mission:
We know, we believe, and we support that professional development is an intentional process, that it is ongoing, and that it is systemic. We know that it must be integrated within school improvement planning and it must focus on student improvement. It must be based on well-documented research, and it must be tailored to the needs of the participants and delivered to them at their site.
