Virtual Learning: Expanding Curriculum Options for Students and Educators

All of our training opportunities are site-specific. That is, the content is tailored to the expressed needs of the participants, and it is delivered to your site.

AUDIENCE:   All educators

DESCRIPTION:

The explosion in virtual learning, or online learning, has taken many of our schools and districts by storm. Students and adults need to understand how to utilize virtual learning resources to not only enhance and expand curriculum opportunities, but to prepare for the ever changing world of instructional technology and lifelong learning. In Michigan, new high school graduation requirements include ‘an online learning experience' for all students. Teachers also are relying more and more on virtual learning to maintain certification and gain additional expertise.

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Learn of the many benefits of integrating virtual learning into a school and/or district
  • Explore the costs and benefits of virtual learning for students
  • Review current resources available to K-12 educators in the virtual world
  • Diagnose and review the current situation at his or her individual school or district in terms of virtual learning experiences
  • Develop a preliminary plan to review, and potentially integrate virtual learning within their school or district.

We know, we believe, and we support that professional development is an intentional process, that it is ongoing, and that it is systemic. We know that it must be integrated within school improvement planning and it must focus on student improvement. It must be based on well-documented research, and it must be tailored to the needs of the participants and delivered to them at their site.
