Call for Submissions
The 2010-2011 volume of Classroom Tips is expanding beyond its traditional tips format. Instead of a list of tips, we plan to publish short articles that K-12 classroom teachers can quickly read, absorb, and use to implement positive changes in their classrooms. Articles should be 500-600 words and focused on the themes below. The opportunity to write these articles is being offered only to PDK members—you have the knowledge, and we want to help you share it with your education colleagues!
Your article should be written in a conversational style and include your own experiences with the topic. What did you learn that others can use to improve their own classrooms? What did you try that didn’t work? What are some things teachers absolutely need to do? What unexpected issues arose?
Themes
October 2010: What are your best classroom management strategies? (Submissions are due by April 30, 2010.)
December 2010: What are the secrets to implementing Response to Intervention? (Submissions are due by September 30, 2010.)
February 2011: What are the benefits and challenges of working in a Professional Learning Community (PLC)? (Submissions are due by November 30, 2010.)
April 2011: How have you used differentiated instruction to improve your students’ learning? (Submissions are due by January 31, 2011.)
June 2011: What are your best strategies for teaching and communicating with the English language learners in your classroom? (Submissions are due by March 31, 2011.)
Logistics
Articles should be emailed as a Word document attachment to PDKPublications@pdkintl.org. On the first page, please include your name, professional position, organization where you are employed, city, state, and e-mail address. Please also include your PDK member number. (If you don’t know your member number, log in and then click on Update Your Profile. It’s listed on the top line. Or, you can call us at 800-76-1156.) On the second page, list the theme you are writing about and then begin your article. Don’t forget to include a title.
Articles will be evaluated by a panel of PDK members, who will use this rubric. All those who submitted articles will be notified by e-mail of the status of their submission after the review is complete.
