An update from Ottawa. We have organized a “Schools Helping Schools Hurricane Katrina Fund Auction.” The spirit of the auction is to raise funds for the displaced students of New Orleans. The influx of students in the Houston Independent School District has put a strain on the learning materials available in the schools. Hurricane Rita did not help the situation. Funds raised by the auction will be donated to HISD to help Louisiana evacuees.

We are also delivering pre-school supplies and toys to Camp Gruber , Oklahoma, where a pre-school has been set-up on the base for over 2,000 evacuees. Meridian Area PDK Chapter
Thanks for your concern, thoughts, and prayers. They are greatly appreciated. Meridian suffered a good amount of damage, but nothing compared to the coastal area. Our schools have a great influx of students who have evacuated from their homes in southern Mississippi and Louisiana. We know there will be ongoing needs with these students and families – many of which are planning to permanently relocate to Meridian. We plan to have our chapter participate in the Walk for Education with the goal of helping schools further south rebuild. Will let you know more after we meet on September 28.
