Shavonna Holman

Dr. Shavonna Holman has worked in the field of education for nearly 25 years. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln (UNL) in the Educational Administration Department. In that position, she teaches and advises graduate students and is also the Coordinator of the master’s program in Educational School Leadership. She co-hosts the Lead Big Red Podcast at UNL and has recently co-authored the 2nd edition of the book, The Principal’s Hot Seat.

Dr. Holman received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Master of Science degrees in Elementary Education and Administration and Supervision from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She received a doctoral degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a focus on Race, Class, Access, Gender, and Equity. She has been recognized for her efforts as an educator and public servant by receiving the University of Nebraska Distinguished Teaching Award, the UNL College of Education and Human Sciences Outstanding Teaching Award, the UNO CPACS Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Service, and the UNO Distinguished Professional Alumni Award.

Dr. Holman has been an elementary teacher, elementary assistant principal, and has served on the Board of Education for the Omaha Public Schools for the past five years, recently completing two years as president. She sits on multiple other local and national boards and committees. Dr. Holman has a strong desire to improve educational outcomes and opportunities for students, particularly in urban settings, and she has conducted research on this topic and served on multiple evaluation teams to help improve the challenges which exist in these settings.
